How Mediation Works
Mediation is simpler than you think. Here's what to expect, step by step.
Free Consultation
We start with a brief phone call. You tell me about your situation, and I'll explain how mediation can help. No cost, no commitment — just a conversation.
Preparation
Before the session, I gather the basics from both sides so we can use our time effectively. No lengthy legal filings — just the information needed to have a productive conversation.
The Session
Each party meets with me separately during the same time block — what's called a caucus model. This happens over Zoom or in person. I move between parties, sharing perspectives and identifying common ground. Each person gets equal time to share their side in a comfortable, private setting.
Resolution
If both parties reach an agreement, it's documented and signed. No outcome is imposed. I facilitate — you decide. If you don't agree, you walk away with no obligation.
What Mediation Is Not
- Not a courtroom — there's no judge, no verdict, no winner or loser
- Not therapy — we're focused on resolution, not counseling
- Not losing control — you never have to agree to anything you don't want
- Not only for people with attorneys — some disputes can be resolved through mediation without legal representation. If you do have an attorney, they're welcome to be part of the process.
Why Choose Mediation
Faster
Most disputes resolve in one to two sessions — not months of court dates.
Affordable
Mediation reduces the legal fees associated with extended court battles. You pay for the mediation session, not months of litigation.
You Decide
You and the other party shape the outcome together. The mediator facilitates — no one imposes a solution you haven't agreed to.
Private
Mediation is confidential. What happens here stays here — unlike public court records.
